Macland Presbyterian Church History

Picture
The roots of Macland Presbyterian Church go back to the summer of 1993, when 11 people began meeting in the home of Ray and Judy Jones for Bible study.  By that fall, the group had grown to 35 and moved to a neighborhood clubhouse.  At the end of the year, about 60 people were meeting at Tapp Middle School each Sunday for worship.  Clearly, God was at work in Powder Springs.
On May 22, 1994, 100 members chartered Macland and began a capital campaign to build our first building.  Some thought that a doublewide trailer with no debt was a safer fiscal plan for the young church, but others had the vision to build for a future congregation and a growing community.
Our founders raised enough money and the Presbytery granted them the balance to construct a spacious sanctuary along Macland Road.  We opened the doors of the new church on August 1995 with 126 people attending the first service.
We began adding members so quickly that just two years later the Church needed more space.  Rather than another capital campaign, we built our classroom building to accommodate the increasing number of Sunday School classes, Bible studies, fellowship functions, mission programs and meetings of community organizations who asked for meeting space.
We continued to grow and in 1999 we were again short of space both in the sanctuary and for classrooms.  In 2005, we broke ground on the Family Life Center which has given us additional classrooms, a large area for fellowship, and a gym.
Macland is and has been a Church home for many over the years.  We look forward to seeing where God takes us in the future.
